No bullshit. Here's how you do it. You assign a value to the cards in the deck. Anything with a value of Ten(or an Ace) is worth -1 to your count - which starts at 0 - and anything less then 7(6-2) is worth +1. Keeping track of this is called your running count.
Given these cards
We end up with a running count of -1. You continue this process until the deck is shuffled
I'm glad you asked, voice in my head. True count is the running count, divided by the number of decks still in play. So if you have 2 decks worth of cards yet to be dealt, you divide the running count by 2 and that is your true count.
Assuming perfect strategy(consult chart below), for every positive true count, you gain a 1.5% chance of winning. This means you should increase your bet based on a positive true count. This is what we call, gaining an edge on the house. With that, it's only a matter of playing enough hands and you'll come out ahead.
